Five Hindi films opened today - Mod, Aazaan, My Friend Pinto, Mujhse Fraandship Karoge and Jo Dooba So Paar and the opening and noon show figures of all films were extremely poor across the country. All the five films with different genre failed to strike the chord.
Mujhse Fraandship Karoge had a slightly better start -- around 15% to 20% -- while Aazaan was slightly better at some single screens, but the overall scenario was poor. The pre-Diwali phase is considered dull as far as film business goes and the poor opening, therefore, does not come as a surprise. The weekend should show some positive response for Mujhse Fraandship Karoge and Mod.
However, the business of the film showed an upward trend from noon show onwards and the occupancy rose to 75 to 80 per cent at the end of the day. It needs to be clarified that Rascals has had a curtailed release in India, since the film had opened on a weekday.
From today onwards, from Friday, the film will have a full-scale release and the film is expected to pack a solid weekend. In fact, the industry is expecting the 4-day weekend to be in Rs 32 crore to Rs 35 crore net range, which is excellent.
The films include Force, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster, Hum Tum Shabana, Tere Mere Phere and Chargesheet. Amongst the five the most promoted film was John Abraham's Force. So, no wonder Force garnered a forceful start at single screens and a decent/average start at plexes across the country. The opening shows at single screens were in 80% to 90% range , while plexes were around 30% to 40%.
Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster has been appreciated immensely, but the numbers are missing. In fact, the film will have to rely on a strong word of mouth to show an improvement in business. Hum Tum Shabana which has had one of the best promotional campaigns, started on a lukewarm note.
The opening shows were in 10% to 15% range. Tere Mere Phere and Chargesheet had a gloomy start. In fact, the opening figures of both the films are dismal. It was unbelieveable for Salman Khan when he heard that Bodygaurd is a huge success, but Its true. Bodyguard has emerged as the strongest opening film.
It created a history by collecting of an unimaginable figures figure in its 5-day opening weekend. Will be the first biggie to join the 'Rs 100 cr Club' so fast. Breakup:- Wed 21.6 cr, Thu 19.31 cr, Fri 14.4 cr, Sat 15.43 cr, Sun 18 cr. It can be said that Bodyguard had also the positive and negative sides, but the positives has casted a spell on the negatives.
The USP of the film is Salman Khan, who emerged as a true winner, the twist in the love story and musical score. Ajay Devgn's action extravaganza 'Singham' has crossed a collection of Rs 100 crores net in India - making it the 7th film of all time to have crossed the mark of Rs 100 crores net!
Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor starrer 'Mausam', a hardcore romantic drama received mixed reviews, but it had a good start - the film has earned Rs.22 crore in the opening weekend. Pankaj Kapoor's directorial debut, the film tracks the story of a couple forced to stay apart by socio-political situations and how after 10 years of separation they reunite and live happily after.
